Even though I (Ellen) have been working at Scrappy for 3.5 years, I don’t think I will never get over how much art supplies can cost. And yet, buying cheap “goods” sold by companies like Temu and Amazon comes with so many ethical implications in terms of labor, source material, and overconsumption. So. How do we make both make art supplies more accessible while being responsible consumers? It’s a question I grapple with on a daily basis as someone working in retail.
For instance, this gorgeous needlepoint kit is about $105 new. At Scrappy, we’re selling it for $50. Whenever we put a green tag on an item, know that the price will never be more than 50% of retail price. We also have some colorful wool scraps, so many good books, pieces of lace, and a variety of storage options. Happy Wednesday, y’all!
