Artivist Meet-Ups
Do you want to use your creativity to change the world? All artists, activists, ARTIVISTS, creative and critical thinkers are welcome! Let’s learn from one another and support each other’s initiatives. Led by Dannie Snyder, Interdisciplinary Artivist, we'll discuss our goals, choices in tactics, what's working, what's not, how we can avoid burnout, and resources for developing our theories and practices. This is also a great space to find allies and collaborators as well as to recruit volunteers for your projects.
Dannie Snyder is an independent voter that facilitates many nonpolitical and bipartisan projects that use the arts to inspire local and global change, particularly in regards to her work in access to medicine and healthy foods. While some of her projects may lean more to the left or right, her goal is to foster a safe space where we can all be seen and heard as human beings. We all have fears and flaws, so here is a space where we encourage each other in pursuing our dreams and where we can grow, both personally and as a community.

Slow Stitch Sundays: Yo-Yo on the Go
Did your grandmother have a tin filled with all kinds of sharp and pokey things, mixed with thread and fibers? Mine did, and something about it was just magical. The two most used ones were cookie tins that she kept under her couch. She had one that held her bobby pins for her to roll her hair every night and the other held the notions for yo-yos. She would always be tracing her saucers and cutting out circles and making what she called yo-yos. (Now a days you can buy a tool to make them but that's really not necessary.) She didn't have the terminology at the time but what she was doing was regulating her nervous system through repetitive marking, cutting, sewing, and then joining. The project didn't take much mental effort but was something to keep your hands busy.
Join me in this class, Yo Yo on the Go, as I teach you how to make our own yo-yos from scratch and I'll show you some easy ways to make the project portable -- think waiting at the car pick up line or sitting at the brewery with a fun beverage! I will also bring some examples to show how you can use them!
