Awesome Art History

Rising 1st-3rd Graders

Campers will create artwork while learning about artists and artforms throughout history. We will learn about the ancient Chinese art of brush painting, impressionist style art with Monet and Cassatt, modern sculptors like Calder and Nevelson, and much more. Our creative campers will learn about historic artists, but make art that is all their own!

Afternoon Sewing Machine Camp, ages 13 and up

Students will learn the components of a sewing machine including how to load the bobbin, thread the machine, learn to sew a straight line, gain control of the sewing speed and pace, seam finishes, backstitching, pivoting and seam allowances. From there, they’ll learn how to lay out a pattern, read the instructions and assemble it. They’ll walk away from the class with a finished garment they can wear and the knowledge to make more!

We ask students bring a working machine (including power cord and pedal) but if they don’t have one, we can provide one. A sewing kit (pins, measuring tape, marking tools, fabric scissors, ruler) is suggested, but not required. Students will be provided with a materials list upon registration.

Ancient cultures have many amazing art

forms that we can use today to create our own masterpieces. Campers will learn about and create sculptures inspired by Ancient Greek Myths, Ancient Egyptian inspired jewelry, Japanese printmaking and much more. Throughout the camp they will be able to bring their own fresh, creative ideas to ancient art!

Students will use art to explore sound, color and other elements in STEM. They will experiment with sounds by creating musical sculptures, try out the science of color mixing, observe nature to create art, produce simple stop-motion animations and much more! Beginner Hand Sewing

Campers will begin the week learning basic hand sewing skills and stitches by making a Needle Book to hold their needles and a Pin Cushion. Throughout the week they will build their skills by stitching a Cookie Coin Holder, a Stuffed Animal and learn a simple way to decorate their own fabric. If time allows, we will spend the last day learning how to operate a real sewing machine to make a small pillow with their designed fabric.

Beginner Sewing Machine

Campers will begin the week learning how to properly set up a sewing machine and practice stitching a straight seam. Throughout the week campers will build their skills while making a Hen Pin Cushion, a Stuffed Animal, an Emoji Pillow, and a Small Quilt to hang or gift.

Campers should bring a well working sewing machine with power cord, foot pedal and 2 bobbins. Please let us know if you need to borrow a sewing machine for this camp.
