Sewing Machine 101

  • The Scrappy Elephant 1745 Allied Street Charlottesville, VA, 22903 United States (map)

Do you have your grandmother's sewing machine? Or one from a friend or Goodwill?

We will learn/practice how to thread the machine, wind the bobbin, sew a straight and zig-zag stitch (depending on your machine) and learn some important and easy ways to maintain your machine so that it works for you. Bring your machine, instruction manual if you have it, a bobbin that came with the machine (preferably an empty one - do not buy a new bobbin unless you're sure of the correct size) a spool of thread, a screw driver that fits your machine, a new machine needle (size 12 - 14 or whatever you might usually use) and a small paintbrush. And your questions! Try out your machine first, so you'll know what you want to learn.

Note: This is not a sewing machine repair class.
