Sarah here- I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who came out on Saturday and helped us celebrate 6 years of Scrappy. Wow. Six years has flown by. I was talking with Little Scrappy the other day about it and half of her life has been her mom being an insane small business owner. She (and my stepson, and my nephews, and my friend’s children, and all the wee little Scrappy customers, and all the kiddos who are inheriting this mess of a planet) is/are the reason this place exists. This heat, these fires, these insane storms- this is the climate crisis here and now. It is not a distant future. We are living in it. What scientists warned us about for years is here and it is scary. But there is hope. Climate solutions exist to create a brighter future for our kiddos. In fact back in May, solar generated more energy than coal for the first time in the U.S- yay! Solutions also exist in all the small actions each of us take- like choosing second hand first instead of hopping online and ordering stuff off the internet. And thanks to all of you who choose to donate your unwanted supplies instead of throw them away, so many awesome materials are kept out of landfills (yay) and given a new life with new artists (yay). Each and every day is an awesome treasure hunt here at Scrappy Elephant thanks to you guys. Thank you so much for your support of this little creative reuse center. We are oh so very grateful.
Although there is NO Toddler Art Class this week, if you are looking for a fun activity towards the end of the week for adults, we have our weekly Slow Stitch Sanctuary meeting Friday 8/21 in the book nook from 12pm-2pm, no need to sign up just drop by! We also have our Watercolor Happy Hour class on 8/21 from 5:30pm-7:30pm, which we recommend signing up for.
We also have some awesome classes happening this weekend! Want to learn how to extend the life of your clothes? Come to our Mending Workshop and learn how to repair holes. If you are interested in learning more about saving our democracy and doing some craftivism while you’re at it, come check out the Craftivism and Indivisble Interest Meeting on Saturday. Want to step into the world of miniatures? This weekend’s Miniatures Class is all about tiny kitchens- so fun! And on Sunday, you can come learn how to turn old fabric and paper scraps into a beautiful book in our Bookbinding Class. So much fun to be had here at Scrappy this weekend!
