A strange thing has been happening at the Scrappy Elephant these past few weeks. Normally we are up to our eyeballs in your unwanted art and craft supplies (we received over 9,000 lbs of your stuff in August!). We are sending photos via slack warning the staff on the next shift about the mess they are about to walk into. We see people walking in with boxes and cringe because we have no idea where the box will stack in our overflowing donation closet. However these past two weeks have been unusually slow in terms of donations walking through the door. At first, it was a welcome reprieve. Staff had some time to work on intern tasks since we lost our summer interns. We’ve been making upcylced art projects to hang around the shop. We’ve cleaned out almost every box on the floor. But now, we are a little bored and we are ready to get back to the work of sorting through your unwanted supplies! If you have anything taking up valuable shelf space that you know you’ll never use again, please feel free to bring it on it. You can even bring it in today (we don’t normally accept donations on Wednesdays because it is our catch up day, but we’re all caught up, thanks)!

All that being said, we have still been getting in some fun things each day and here are a few of them, inlcuding this beautiful Singer from the 1950s! We also have some gorgeous brushes, some lovely calligraphy pens and nibs, some cute clothesline quilt kits, a wee bit of fun fabric (all our sewists in the community and in our sewing classes would be extremely grateful if you felt like cleaning out your stash and bringing fabric here), a little bit of fur if you are starting your Halloween costume soon, some glow sticks (speaking of Halloween and trick or treating), the best cat card I have ever seen, and oh so much more.

We are open from 10-7 today. Wishing you a lovely and creative day friends!

ps- if you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, we have a bookbinding class on Saturday and a Khatt calligraphy class on Sunday!
